Artwork Submission Checklist

PICTURES & LOGOS

Please provide good quality, crisp electronic images of pictures or logos.  If you only have printed copies, we can scan them, but digital originals are best.  We can NOT accept negatives.

NOTE: If you want us to scan a PRINTED piece, be aware that the scan may show the ink dots that were used in the original printing process of your artwork and could result in a lower quality image than the original. Try to use original, electronic art whenever possible.

DIGITAL IMAGES

Useable digital file formats:

  • PDF (Prepress Quality) - the most preferred file format
  • INDD (Adobe InDesign)
  • AI (Adobe Illustrator)
  • PSD (at least 300 dpi)
  • QXD (Quark) Quark images must be converted into press-quality PDFs first.
  • JPG (Maximum Quality - at least 300 dpi at approximately the finished size of the art)
  • EPS
  • TIFF (300-350 dpi)
  • BMP (1200 dpi)
  • MICROSOFT WORD, EXCEL & POWER POINT (Can be used as TEXT ONLY). We will cut and paste this into our graphics programs. Note: These programs allow files to be saved as hi-resolution PDFs, so convert your artwork to press-quality PDFs first (which is the preferred file format).

NOT useable file formats:

  • GIF (Not enough colors to for quality results.)
  • MICROSOFT PUBLISHER (You CAN convert your file to press-quality PDFs first), WORKS, OR WORD PERFECT.
  • ANY OTHER NATIVE PAINT PROGRAM OR DRAWING PROGRAM THAT CANNOT BE CONVERTED TO A JPG (minimum 300 dpi), EPS, TIFF (300 dpi), OR PDF (2400 dpi).

We are aware that some companies will accept these other file-types. The reason we don't is simply because the final product does not provide the quality results you expect and that we deliver. These programs can’t export the images at a high enough quality to produce a superlative printed piece.

PLEASE DO NOT PROVIDE IMAGES COPIED FROM A WEB SITE. They may look okay on your monitor and inkjet printer, but they are low-resolution (usually only 72 dots-per-inch vs. 300 minimum) and will result in poor prints. Please provide us with a high-resolution image whenever possible, or a high-resolution copy, and we will scan it for you. As always, the better the quality of the original image, the better the quality of the finished product.

STOCK PHOTOS

You can find many free photos to use for your design at http://images.google.com/.  We can also access our subscription photo libraries for you at a small additional fee if you would rather that we provide your artwork.

**IMPORTANT NOTE** Make sure the electronic images you select are at least 300 dpi (or approximately 9 MB) in size for a 5.5” x 4.25” postcard. We also suggest ROYALTY FREE images to keep your costs down.

SCANS

If you are scanning your images to a file, scan your photos as close to the finished size as possible. Resolution should be 300-400 dpi. Scans at lower resolutions may print fuzzy and scans at higher resolutions may be cumbersome with no added quality. One-Color Bitmap images should be scanned at 1200 dpi.

NOTE: When scanning from a PRINTED piece, the scan may show ink dots that result in a poor quality image. Try to use original art whenever possible.

Be sure to obey copyright laws when scanning printed pieces and get permission in writing when necessary.

DIGITAL CAMERAS

Most low-end digital cameras cannot produce a high enough resolution for quality four-color printing. If you must use one, put the camera at the highest quality setting possible.
